About Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga, brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan, combines breath, movement, relaxation and meditation.

It is a science of sequence, rhythm and sound that allows you to work on every aspect of your body, mind and soul. No previous experience of yoga or related disciplines is required to start feeling the undeniable benefits almost immediately. Kundalini Yoga offers a blueprint ideal for the new millennium.

Over time, this practice provides the physiological and psychological conditions for full health. These include a balanced glandular system, a strong nervous system, increased lung capacity and the clearing of emotional blockages.

Kundalini yoga is a holistic philosophy,

Which has practical benefits in terms of rejuvenation and healing. It was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan. It is a comprehensive system of exercise, breathing, meditation, chanting and healthy mental projection. In this way, we develop a conscious and dynamic relationship between our personal life energy and the universal flow of Prana. The overall result is the balancing of our chakras and the alignment of our ten spiritual Bodies. This awakens us to who we really are: spiritual beings experiencing the human experience.

The word Kundalini means hair spiral,

and later came to be known as the coiled serpent of potential energy and consciousness, which is believed to lie at the base of the spine, waiting to be awakened by various practices; moving and making sounds like a snake when it appears. In fact, it needs to be collected before it can be awakened, and when it is collected to sufficient intensity, it will naturally reopen, giving the sensation of awakening or rebirth. One of the earliest methods was to roll the hair into a knot on the top of the head. This knot then acts as an amplifier and transformer between finite/personal and infinite/personal life.

Yoga means union,

and in addition to the temporary unification of mind, body and soul, in this earthly life there is also the possibility of an eternal unification between the differentiated little soul/self that expands towards undifferentiation and the great soul/self that individuates or differentiates. Note: The very consideration of unification already implies an acknowledgement of separation. Yoga is a way to heal separation at different stages.

The structure and processes of the body/mind are our most powerful tools for achieving this unification, and also our most common obstacles. The stages of the Kundalini journey have been visualised as seven chakras - wheels of energy or gateways through which the consciousness must pass; the individual consciousness rises while the universal consciousness descends.

Most of our states of consciousness can be represented as postures - some static and some dynamic - each of which affects our breathing and mind patterns. By changing our posture, breathing rhythm and thought vibration, we can change our state.

Kundalini awakening

is no big deal, because for life to exist within us, it must already be active, albeit relatively unconscious. Moments of deeper awakening happen in life, but we don't always know what contributed to that awakening or how to sustain it. Kundalini Yoga has developed as a systematic method of expanding consciousness and maintaining new awareness.

Kundalini is connected to primordial consciousness and is only dangerous when ignored, when it becomes a wrong intention; just like truth, weed, sexuality, bacteria, etc. - they all cause problems if ignored. Chanting a mantra is one important way in which the stimulation and upliftment of energy from the dream areas of the subconscious can be harmoniously regulated, directed and transformed accordingly.

Kundalini refers to an impulse and energy that has both a personal and collective dimension; it is permanent and can offer us inner guidance - it is our inner guru. Ritual is one way of awakening Kundalini. With its sacred quality, ritual is an expression of respect for an energy considered to be very powerful and somewhat unknown.
